You might come to us if your doctor thinks you need an X-ray, CT, MRI, ultrasound or a nuclear medicine examination.
You can find out more about the type of scan you might have in radiology on this page.
Walk-in service
All X- ray requests are made electronically online by your GP and these are immediately visible in our Radiology System. You do not need to bring anything with you, whether you are a walk-in patient, or you have been given an appointment.
In order to support social distancing our walk-in service for GP patients is only available for those patients requiring a chest X-ray.
Patients can attend any site, Monday – Friday, during the following times:
Lister Hospital
8.30am – 4.00pm
New QEII Hospital
8.30am – 4.30pm
Hertford County Hospital
8:30am – 12:30pm
2 – 4.30pm
Patients requiring any X-rays except chest X-rays will be contacted by radiology to arrange an appointment.

How we use AI (Artificial Intelligence) in our radiology department
We may use AI technology to help our clinicians identify potential health issues found during your treatment or consultation. AI technology is only used to review images and data to help clinicians with their decision-making process. It does not replace the clinician’s final diagnosis.
We do not share patient identifiable information such as names or addresses with external organisations, and patient confidentiality is always maintained. Only critical non-identifying information such as age and gender are shared to allow safe processing.
All clinical support technology used by the Trust is regulated and certified under the Medical Devices Regulations (MDR) and the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
If you have questions or concerns about the use of clinical support technology, or how your personal data is processed by the Trust, please contact our Patient Liaison Service (PALS).
