East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust’s gynaecology department is now using pioneering robotic technology to carry out surgery, one of only a few in the region to do so.
The department, based at Lister Hospital in Stevenage, is using robotics for operations on some malignant and benign gynaecological conditions – following in the footsteps of the Trust’s urology department.
Consultant gynaecologists Miss Ghadah Ahson and Mr C P Lim have performed 52 robotic operations between them since the department started using the technology just over six months ago – despite a three-month pause due to COVID-19.
Miss Ahson, who is also the clinical director for gynaecology, said: “The advanced technology of our da Vinci SI surgical system allows surgeons to carry out increasingly complex surgery with incredible precision and accuracy, resulting in reduced post-operative pain, quicker recovery and improved surgical outcomes.
“The project’s success could not have been achieved without the fantastic support and expertise provided by the nursing team, who between them have such extensive urology robotic surgery experience.”
