Neonatal and Acute Paediatric services at Lister Hospital have been further enhanced this week by the arrival of three new GlideScope machines.
GlideScope is a video laryngoscope which provides a consistently clear, real-time view of the airway and endotracheal tube (ETT) placement, enabling quick intubation for paediatric and neonatal patients.
Intubation is one of the most common but high-risk procedures performed in the neonatal unit and paediatric department.
There were 44 new born babies at Lister Hospital born in 2022 who required intubation within the first day of life.
The Trust has purchased three GlideScope, one for the neonatal unit and two for both the paediatric ward and Children’s A&E.
The use of the GlideScope will further improve patient care and safety by reducing the adverse events during the intubations. This will create a supportive learning environment for all the staff and improve doctors skills for intubation.
