Michael Zandi is Honorary Consultant Neurologist at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust (Lister Hospital, Stevenage site, Tuesdays).
He is Consultant Neurologist at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, London and Honorary Associate Professor in the University College London Queen Square Institute of Neurology.
He trained in medicine at Clare College, Cambridge, with part II in Experimental Psychology with Barry Everitt, with an elective period as externe in neurology at the Salpêtrière, Paris with Bertrand Fontaine. Neurology training with an East Anglian Neuroscience Training Fellowship in Cambridge, Norwich and the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London. He has a PhD in neuroimmunology (Cambridge), with time spent in the laboratories or clinics of Alasdair Coles, David Jayne (SLE), Seth Grant with Alex Bayes (Sanger), and Angela Vincent FRS (Oxford Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine).
He runs an autoimmune encephalitis and neuroimmunology clinic and a monthly encephalitis clinical and academic meeting at the National Hospital. He works on central nervous system neuroimmunological diseases, particularly autoimmune encephalitis (eg. associated with NMDAR, LGI1 or related autoantibodies), paraneoplastic syndromes, neurological infection, inflammatory disorders of nerve and muscle, neuropsychiatric involvement in systemic lupus erythematosus and related conditions, and is researching the role of inflammation in neurodegenerative disease and in psychiatry.
